Martyr Worthy
Grid ref 522326, Postcode SO21 1EB
Client: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

House Paddock lies between the River Itchen and the popular long-distance footpath, the Itchen Way, accompanied by St. Swithun's Way, King's Way and Three Castles Path! The Trust manage a large area of private land in the Itchen Valley. Around Chilland, Itchen Abbas and Martyr Worthy they look after floodplain grazing meadows, lowland fens and lowland meadows. House Paddock is part of a suite of lowland meadow sites which are in Entry Level Stewardship agreements. The meadows are being managed, predominantly by grazing, to increase their botanical diversity. Additionally, every year, the meadows are cut for hay which is used for livestock at Hockley Meadows Farm.

This weekend we will be replacing a fenceline which is no longer stockproof. This will allow HIWWT to continue grazing the meadows which is a key part of their management.
