Holt Lane, Hook
OS Map 186, Grid Ref SU737548
Client: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Bassetts Mead forms part of the Whitewater floodplain that HIWWT manages on behalf of the developers of the Holt Lane estates. It is a mixture of woodland, reed marsh and fen, potentially with SSSI status.

We were here in 2010 installing a boardwalk and kissing gates.

2017. The winding Loddon river suffers bank erosion from both natural and human causes. Various revetments were installed which will give the river's wildlife more places to hide. This was largest one, and will help to speed up the flow and keep the river-bed clear of silt.

Meet at 10am in the Bassetts Mead car park. From the M3, junction 5 take the B3349 towards Hook turning right at the next roundabout, straight on at the next continuing on the B3349. Pass under the railway bridge to the next roundabout. Turn right here on to the A30, towards Hartley Whitney. After about 600 metres turn right, opposite The Crooked Billet PH, into Holt Lane and then immediately left into the car park. You can see a wooden lectern for Bassetts Mead from the A30. Look out for our yellow signs.
